Answer

Optimize Your Print Quality with the Right Settings.

DTF printing requires the correct temperature and time to produce the very best results. Your ideal DTF temperature chart gives you vibrant and durable transfers.

The standard settings for DTF heat transfers are:

  • Pre-Press garment for 10 seconds to remove any moisture.
  • Temperature: 150°C
  • Time: 10 seconds
  • Pressure: Medium to High Pressure

Using the wrong heat press settings on fabrics could ruin your transfer and damage the garment. Although numerous factors influence the settings, here are the average DTF heat press settings for these fabrics:

 TemperatureTimePressure
Cotton150°C10 secMedium to High
Polyester140°C10-12 secMedium to Heavy
Blends150 – 160°C10 secMedium to Heavy
Nylon150°C8-10SHeavy

Answer

There are many compatible fabrics including cotton, nylon, leather, polyester, denim, and light and dark fabrics which makes DTF Transfers the most versatile digital print medium on the market.

Polyester
The polyester print is bright and vivid. This synthetic fabric has a wide range of uses including sportswear, casual wear, swimwear, outerwear, including linings. Polyester fabric has the characteristics of high elastic recovery ability. Therefore, it is highly durable and wrinkle-resistant and has no limitations with DTF Transfers.

Cotton
Cotton fabrics are more comfortable than polyester fabrics and this would be a popular choice for clothing and home furnishings such as decorative linings and bedding. Cottons are a firm favourite for DTF Transfers.

Silk
Silk is a typical protein fibre that develops from the shell of mysterious crawling larvae. Silk is a naturally strong fibre because it has excellent tensile strength and can withstand a lot of pressure. DTF Transfers are exciting on silk!

Leather
DTF printing also works on leather and PU leather! The effect is very good, many people are amazed. It’s durable and comes in gorgeous colours. Leather is used for a variety of purposes, including making bags, belts, clothing and shoes.

Nylon
Nylon fabric cannot be dyed or printed in high temperature environments, so direct jet printing is often used for printing, and acid dyes are also used. The difficulty with acid dyes is that the colour is unstable and the colour fastness is poor after printing. These problems have been around for a long time. DTF Transfers is suitable for nylon but make sure that you have a good quality nylon and our advice would be to do a test to make sure you have no dye migration.

Denim
Denim is a thicker twill cotton fabric with a yarn-dyed surface. Originally, denim was only available in blue and was used as a canvas. But with the development of technology, denim is now available in different colours and some are soft and some are hard. Some are rough, some are delicate. DTF Transfers work exceptionally well on denim.

Answer

We strongly recommend you use a HEAT PRESS.

By ironing your DTF Transfers you will have uneven heat distribution, lack of adequate press as well as uneven pressure, temperature control challenges as well as timing can be an issue. DTF transfers done with an iron will result in a poor quality transfer!

DO NOT IRON!

Answer

Knowing what to avoid is as important as knowing what to do.

So, here’s what our team at DTF PRINTING AFRICA have seen turn into unsatisfying products:

  • Poor print file quality. The DTF printing technique is characterised by sharp, crisp lines, therefore low-quality designs with a resolution lower than 300 DPI can lead to uneven edges, white edges or unclear prints.
  • Black design on black fabric. Black prints will look paler or greyer on a black garment, we advise avoiding black-on-black placement.
  • Gradient from solid to transparent & soft edges. A gradient is usually achieved by small dots, and we’ve already covered why you shouldn’t use dots in your designs.

Designs with soft edges don’t work with DTF prints because the small ink dots that create the effect don’t have a surface area big enough to adhere to the garment. As a result, you’ll most likely have a rough, blotchy edge. Stay away from soft edges!

  • Too many small details. Small details like dots and thin lines can start peeling off over time because of the thin layer of glue covering the printed parts.
  • Semi-transparent graphics (or elements with lowered opacity) don’t translate well in direct-to-film printing. We recommend using solid colours.
