Key File Formats for DTF Printing
The format you choose affects how clear your designs will look!
Here are the most popular formats and why they work well for DTF.
- PNG: The PNG file format is a favourite in DTF printing. One of its best features is transparent backgrounds. This is helpful when you want a design with crisp, clean edges. For example, if you’re printing a logo or a shape, a PNG can make the edges look sharp and neat.
- JPEG: The JPEG format is widely used because it has a smaller file size. However, it doesn’t support transparency, so it’s not as flexible as PNG for designs with clear edges. If you use JPEG, be sure it’s a high-resolution image because JPEGs CAN lose quality with repeated saving.
PLEASE CHECK YOUR JPEGS’s WHEN YOU HAVE WORKED ON THEM BEFORE YOU ADD THESE TO YOUR GANGSHEET OR EMAIL THEM TO US FOR PRINT!
- TIFF: The TIFF format keeps high-quality details and doesn’t lose any information when saved. It’s a first choice for complex designs with fine details. However, TIFF files can be large, so they’re best for designs where quality is the top priority.
- PDF: PDFs are very versatile because they can hold multiple layers. PDF files will keep your design clear, which is great for DTF printing.
For DTF printing, high resolution PNG files sized at the same size as the transfer needed (or larger) and vector file formats are your best friends.
They are also capable of supporting transparency, which is a must for DTF.
While JPGs are a very common image file format, are risky due to any changes being done on the original file can lower the quality of your image!

Words less than 1mm will not come out well and will most likely not transfer onto the garment. Fine, tiny details will not adhere to the transfer. Be sure to add a stroke and make any fine details thicker for best results. We are not responsible for artwork that falls below the minimum requirements.
Transparency, see through effects and drop shadows do not work for DTF. Please take off any shadow or gradient effects as it will not print as you see on the screen.
Artwork needs to be created in 300 DPI for best print quality. Images with lower quality will not print well and may appear pixelated.
The printing process needs a high-quality image to have a clean and neat image. Check your edge quality and watch out for pixeled edges in your images and designs.
We cannot print copyrighted or trademarked designs. Please only send designs you own the copyright to!

We are not responsible for colours. You must check your colours — we do not check colours for you. Most monitors show images in RGB, be sure your file is saved as RBG. Please check your pantone colours as what you see on the screen is not necessarily what will print, as colours will be converted to RGB.
